I recently went to Lindisfarne Priory for a day of watching Viking re-enactments, which was a fantastic event! I'd recommend it to anyone with an interest in the Dark Ages - there was a lot of inspiration for terrain and it's not a coincidence that I arranged a trade for my mate's SAGA collection a couple of weeks later... One of my favourite "characters" from the event was the Champion of the Viking Jarl. I liked the fabrics and shield design and decided to make a miniature version of him.
I look some choice parts from the Viking Hirdmen kit from Gripping Beast, added another layer of material around the bottom of the tunic and a chainmail coif. The real work came with the shield design...
I do now have a sizeable Viking force that will be making an appearance over the next months, as well as Dark Age villagers and livestock - stay tuned!
Added chainmail bits make this fellow look fearsome indeed. Hope his beard doesn't get tangled in that coif though, could end up rather troublesome...
ReplyDeleteI just winced at the thought of that... :)
DeleteThat's a really cool idea to make a model based on someone you saw. It turned out very similar. Good work!
ReplyDeleteCheers mate!
