Board Update and Purchases...

So, another week of not-a-massive-amount getting done! I have made a good bit of progress on the gaming board though, which is great, but I've hit a bit of an obstacle - a lack of paint. I meant to get a load yesterday whilst I was out Christmas shopping, but only remembered once I was on the train home. Damnit! I had to basically use the dregs of the large cheap tubes of paint that I had left over. That had been the plan anyway, but it's turned out a bit darker than I'd have liked...

For some reason, the board in the picture looks a lot lighter in the picture than in real life. It's closer to black. I'm aiming for my normal basing basecoat, somewhere near Scorched Brown from the GW line.

As mentioned, I went shopping yesterday, passing a GW... Suddenly, I was exiting the shop with a box of Wyches and the latest edition of White Dwarf. Bugger. To be honest though, I had pre-ordered the Codex, so it wasn't a huge surprise that I found myself buying some. Army-wise I'll be going Hellion-heavy with lots of other cool stuff!

Ordered these misc. items at the start of the week - some 20mm plastic bases for the Ground Zero Games 15mm Aliens I bought a while back so I can base them up for various games, plus a couple of hobby items from Heresy Miniatures - a sculpting tool/clay shaper and some "brown stuff" modelling clay to try out.

Bit of a silly purchase - mostly for nostalgia reasons (I was a massive Jurassic Park fan as a kid - I had a bunch of the toys and loved the movies), but I also like the idea of basing them, taking the moldlines off and using them in some 15mm pulp games. They were rather cheap - £1.99 for the two. Oddly they had a full range of toys (mostly on clearance though). I wonder if there is a new cartoon or something? 

Finally, the other board section, pre-paint. It's also had the basecoat now.

Upon reflection, not such a bad week after all...

Construction Site

 First there was one...

And then there were two...

Construction completed on both board sections. Actually did all of this in my bedroom, probably not the best location to be drilling and sanding wood - things are crazy in the garage at the moment, it's freezing cold and pitch black dark after 5pm here so the bedroom was really the only choice available. Happy with the results though! Time to fill in the countersunk screw-heads...

Slight update...

 Just a quick update on the board...

Spent today doing boring house stuff, cleaning things, cooking things, etc. etc. 

Now that's done, I get to work on the board - here's the start - I've basically got the cleaning up of the wooden supports done, the guide holes drilled on all the inner supports and their positions marked on the first board section. Happy with how they're coming on so far!

First lot of screws for one of the support beams are in - here's one, countersunk so I can fill the hole and sand it off nicely before I add the sand. 


Whilst I'm on with this, I'm watching Man Lab. Quite apt I think!

Meet Mr. Board

This is the beginning of my brand-spanking-new games board! Two 2ft by 4ft segments that will fit together rather nicely - they'll be scorched brown, drybrushed with a lighter brown and finally a pale grey-ish cream, so the same style as all of my miniatures bases! Or at least the vast majority!


To be honest, this is one of those projects I've been putting off for absolutely ages, yet is totally essential. Daft, isn't it? It was mainly due to the effort of having to organise lifts to the B&Q Warehouse combined with the previous lack of funds. Well, today was payday, thus I finally took the plunge and got it sorted! The supporting brackets were cut in the store at no extra cost, saving me a bit of work, but they'll need to be cleaned up and then everything will need to be marked properly for the screws, guide holes drilled, screws countersunk and filled in. I'm going for a real neat and tidy job here - I have a feeling that this is going to spur on the terrain building even more!
