Small Jungle Foliage and a short tutorial

These are the "small" pre-cut terrain bases from East Riding Miniatures. They're 3mm MDF, extremely sturdy and it took me around 3 days to get all 12 bases of foliage complete...

Jungle Foliage - A Quick Guide
1) Sort out the base - mine were ready to go from ERM, but you could cut these out - personally I prefer smaller clumps of foliage, as I use them on a skirmish board rather than a bigger battle board... If you're cutting these yourself, draw the shapes on MDF, cut them out, bevel the edges with a sharp hobby knife and sand the edges to complete.
2) Switch the hot glue gun on...
3) Add rocks/cork/lotus seed pods - I find that doing these first, then spraying with some black undercoat, works well.
4) Add foliage where required. Try and leave space for miniatures - don't clump the foliage too close together. I use aquarium plants for this - separate them up into usable elements.
5) Disguise the hot glue with a filler/sand/PVA glue mix. Allow to dry.
6) Add sand/gravel where required with PVA - allow to dry and undercoat black.
7) Basecoat the sand/gravel (I use Scorched Brown) and when dry, drybrush progressively lighter shades to match your board/miniatures.
8) Add flock.

That's it!

Jungle Foliage

I managed to get these finished on my last three days off - I loved the pre-cut terrain bases from East Riding Miniatures! Even though I have a lot of 5mm MDF for terrain basing, the time it takes to cut, carve and sand a base to the point where it's usable is generally a pain - the speed that I managed to get these done was brilliant. These are the medium bases - I also did 6 of the smaller ones, but they're for later...

Welcome to the Jungle: Redux

I finally got around to working on some more jungle terrain for my collection! I recently found the laser-cut terrain templates from East Riding Miniatures whilst trawling the net and loved the idea! The main thing about putting out a load of these was actually carving up their bases (tedious without a fretsaw, plus rather messy!) so these are great.
These are the "Medium" bases - I was a bit worried that they were rather small when I first opened up the package on Friday, but I'm really happy with them!
The bases used above are the "Small" bases - I had the same worry with these, that they were a bit too small to be used, but they've worked out really well when cluttered with stuff. For all of the new bases I've used some combination of natural cork, aquarium plants, lotus seed heads plus a bunch of rocks that I picked up in my grandma's garden a few years ago. Feels kinda cool to use them here!
These are some rubble piles I created a while back as a sort of "insert" for the ruins I made earlier - I do intend to go back to the ruins and finish my plan to build another 6 or so. The idea behind these is for flexibility and to avoid the whole "Hey guys, someone ruddy cleaned up the whole wasteland after bombing the shite out of it!"-look that you can sometimes see...

I've been adding plaster to these, to cover up the hot glue used - I've also just finished adding gravel and sand to all of the 12 new bases
