Bit of an image-dump post, some pictures from a recent games night using Playmobil gladiator figures! We used the wondeful Song of Blades and Heroes ruleset with some modifications (particularly taking into account the fact that we could remove shields and weapons, so for example, a combatant with a shield ignores the first "knocked down" result, but loses the shield...this can then be recovered with one action when out of combat).
"We who are about to die, salute you!" |
Two fairly matched gladiators go at it, with a fallen velite in the background... |
Winner of the first round |
My barbarian from Gaul takes on an Egyptian Warrior. |
Things get interesting with the introduction of a bear... |
And they don't exactly turn out well for the Dimachaerus |
This is just tugging on childhood heart strings. What a fun idea!
ReplyDeleteIt was a really fun game :) it'd be cool to run a mini-campaign with it!
DeleteSo awesome. That arena is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteReally cool isn't it? Even had some Roman nobles cheering on :)
DeleteVery cool dude!
ReplyDeleteCheers Bob!
DeleteBrilliant! Playmobil will be wondering where the sudden spike in sales of gladiator figures has come from after this post :-)
ReplyDeleteHah! We also used some of the playmobil Knights a few weeks ago to run a Game of Thrones skirmish with the Song of Blades and Heroes rules!
DeleteA very good idea. We play with Playmobile too with my 5 year old son. Less complicated, but Playmobile are a good introduction to miniature gaming.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea :) The Song of Blades rules are very simple, but with quite a bit of depth when you factor in special abilities and the like!
DeleteBest idea of the year!
ReplyDeleteHaha! Thanks Dave!
DeleteAmazing! I loved playmobil as a child. So tempted by this.....
ReplyDeleteAlso: Nice collection of gaming books in the background.
Cheers Dave :)
DeleteThanks Michael!
