More Post-Apoc Gladiators Built

Spent the day building a few more characters for the post-apoc gladiator project:

• The gent with the sort-of trident (what do you call a trident with two spikes instead of three? A bident? Hah!) was a duplicate, so he had a bit of surgery and a road-sign shield made out of plasticard (my post-apoc is vaguely set in the US, apparently "YIELD" is their version of "Give Way" in the UK...I think). 
• The lady with the bladed fighting staff was an awkward one, a bunch more trimming and some putty filling is required. She was quite a poor cast with some major mold lines, so the helmet was trimmed as well as her shoulder pads. 
• Finally my favourite - a former grenadier who received a club wrapped with barbed wire from the Chaos Cultist plastics, plus a shield from the fantasy skeleton warriors which had the raised details removed and surface scratched up - this will also be a roadsign. The pieces just seem to fit well together on him.

Xenos Mercs - Guard-Pack pt.2

The rest of the Kraanites, following the scent of their pack-brothers...

The Kraanite pack found in the slums of Araskh is estimated to number between 30-50 hounds, plus their allies - various xenos species are known to work alongside the hounds to provide support. The group is then divided into Hunt-Packs or Guard-Packs depending upon the task assigned to them. Pictured above is the rest of the hounds of the Guard-Pack assigned to protect a number of corporate assets around the sprawling settlement of Groundfall.

Kraanite hounds are tenacious fighters, fiercely loyal to their employers and consumnate scavengers - their weaponry and equipment is often taken from their defeated enemies. This approach works well for the Guard-Pack stationed in Groundfall, as fresh supplies to the settlement are often limited.

These are from the old Cobalt-1 range, now sold here: Ar-Men from Black Hat Miniatures. I have a bunch of other figures from this range - lots of really cool stuff - nice aliens to add to your 40k skirmishes.

Xenos Mercs - Guard-Pack pt.1

Part of the pack, picking up the scent of their target.

The dog-soldiers of the Kraan Cluster are a mercenary formation operating on the frontier worlds of the Eastern Fringe. From time to time, Rogue Traders have been observed hiring Kraanite Hounds for the added protection a pack can provide on-world. Whilst in the greater Imperium, a citizen found to be conversing or living alongside xenos could expect a swift punishment, things are a little more lenient out of sight of the Ecclesiarchy or Arbites...

On the turbulent planet of Araskh, a Kraanite pack has operated as guards for various merchant interests over the past several years. Through use of translator tech built into their harnesses they are able to communicate with the various races that make up the shantytowns bordering the worlds major settlements.

These are from the old Cobalt-1 range, now sold here: Ar-Men from Black Hat Miniatures. They're lovely sculpts by Bob Naismith, with a real Rogue Trader feel. I left these stock - I couldn't think of anything I wanted to add to them. These will be joined by another three and a heavy hitter, as mercenaries in my wasteland setting.

Expanding the Shanty

These "Refugee Huts" from GameCraft Miniatures look brilliant! Almost like they've been constructed from leftover parts of a spaceship (I think that's probably the idea). I'd love to get a couple to add to my terrain collection. Maybes as a gift to myself in the future?

What I did on my "weekend"...

I recently started a new shift pattern at work - 3 days on, 3 days off, 12 hour shifts. I actually love it! I previously worked 5 days a week with split days off, meaning I didn't really have time to see my family and friends whilst also having a bit of painting time. The new shift pattern works great! Here's what I managed to finish off over my "weekend": 

I finished off the Scabbs figure I showed the other day, as well as 3 bomber zombies for my WWWII setting, a halfling thief for Mordheim, a zombie-huntin, blood-splattered granny with a shotgun and a not-Serenity from Ground Zero Games. I also got some painting done on a pulp investigator from Reaper an a cowboy supporting his gutshot mate.

I spent yesterday finishing basing up this horde of miniatures - I fancied something new to paint and I'd almost run out of figures that were undercoated and ready to go. I wanted something a bit sci-fi/Rogue Trader to go with the wasteland/spaceport/shantytown terrain I've been working on. I pulled this horde of stuff out of a bunch of boxes - there's various aliens (Black Cat Bases, GZG, Star Wars pre-paints) and some random pulp/horror stuff from Horrorclix. I needed to base up some of them (with some pinning) and add sand/gravel to the rest of them. I then spray-undercoated a bunch of these with the not-Khemri Brown Humbrol spray. They're now good to go!

Beginning of the Shanty Town

As always, my modelling attention deficit disorder kicked in and I found myself building some scavenged shanty town buildings! 

It still needs sand/gravel on the base and obviously needs painting, but I reckon it's decent for the first effort! I built a box (well...four walls) out of foamboard and used dressmakers pins and hot glue to hold it together. The front door is from the Cities of Death kits.

I used scissors to cut up some sheets of corrugated card (purchased in Wilkinsons) and used various bits from the MASSIVE BOX OF TERRAIN-RELATED JUNK that can be found under my bed. I rather like the patchwork effect!

I also used some I beam plasticard for support pillars on the dwelling and some road signs from a construction vehicle set.

A couple of action figure pieces (robotic arms) were added on the roof - this would probably be home to a mechanic of some sort...
